Carnevale- Viareggio

Viareggio is the site of a grand float parade and has the spirit most similar to that of the New Orleans crowds of my past. Floats travel three times around a circuit on the lungomare. People wander in and around and between the floats in a casual disorder. This was the first event I’ve ever attended where you get a condom at the gate entrance. I didn’t know if that was a sign of things expected.

Firstly, I was seriously underdressed.

On arrival, the sun was shinning, so I set up my position for some good shots.

However, Mother Nature had other plans and the sky clouded up and turned gray. Oh, well! The floats featured mostly political figures or themes. The upcoming elections provided the usual subjects.

There were some fantasy floats and those with children in mind.

I guess the condom was in honor of the sexy toys.

At the end of the day, you have very tired feet, silly string on your clothes, and lots of confetti.
