O’keefe country

One of the highlights of visiting Santa Fe is seeing the country where Georgia O’Keeffe was so inspired to create. From her first visit to the Ghost Ranch to her eventual purchase of a house in Abiquiu, she was taken with the variety in the landscapes. We spent one morning at the small museum in Santa Fe, first with a docent and then on our own, seeing some of the collection of her works as well as photos taken in New York by her husband and other photos of some of her camping trips. On another day we, drove out to Abiquiu and the Ghost Ranch. Her privacy is still protected, her homes require special tour arrangements to visit and the village of Abiquiu is not set up for visitors.

Here are some photos of the area she loved to paint. As I took them, I could see the paintings that she made come to life.
