Verona- The Giro comes to town

Verona’s stage of the Giro d’Italia was a time trial. The day before, tents started popping up, streets were blocked off, people were in their lycra riding around town, flatbed trucks dropped booths into place, the start and end arches were put up. Excitement was building!

Big screens showed the highlights to the waiting crowds.

38 minutes after starting the 33.2 KM course, the first teams starting appearing.

Fans cheered them on

they went whizzing by

Even the last guy gets applause

When we came back from dinner a few hours later, all that was left as a reminder of the big event were the street sweepers.
